The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction (MHAPR) have reaffirmed their commitment to in address poverty and humanitarian challenges in Nigeria. This follows a courtesy visit by the Chairperson of the NHRC Governing Council, Dr. Salamatu Suleiman, who led a team of the Commission's management to the Ministry.

During the visit, the the Chairperson called on the Ministry to intensify efforts in tackling the rising levels of poverty and humanitarian challenges across the country.

Responding Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Hon. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, reaffirmed his Ministry's commitment to partner with the Commission to protect and promote the rights of vulnerable groups, including displaced persons, individuals living with disabilities, the elderly, and others.

The Minister highlighted previous interventions by the Ministry and emphasized the implementation of targeted interventions and support mechanisms to alleviate the plight of vulnerable populations. He also expressed the Ministry's commitment to work with the NHRC to ensure Nigeria retains its “A” status at the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions.
