Disburses Palliatives to cushion hardship

The National Human Rights Commission's Thrift and Credit Cooperative Society on the 16th of April, 2025 elected its new executives to pilot the affairs of the organization for the next two years.

The Cooperative was established in 2006 with very few staff as members, but as at December 2024 it has 752 members with a total contribution of N610,843,865.

At the just concluded election of new executives, all the serving executive members including top management staff were returned unopposed except the Vice President whose tenure has elapsed having served two tenures in the same capacity. This is a testament to their hardwork and sincerity.

The returning President of the Cooperative, Halima Ahmed expressed gratitude to the members of her team, saying that their dedication, commitment, insightful contributions and tireless efforts remain invaluable.

"To our esteemed cooperators whom I describe as the heart and soul of this cooperative, I extend my heartfelt appreciation for your active participation and constructive feedback, which have been a source of inspiration", the President stated.

Ahmed a former Secretary General of the cooperative noted that a key recommendation of the annual audit report is that all appropriations including dividends, will only be disbursed after the completion of audit report for the financial year.

"This approach will safeguard the financial health and integrity of our cooperative and it is step towards greater transparency and accuracy which will benefit all the members", she emphasised.

The President was happy to announce the decision of her leadership to share, for the first time, palliatives to all the members from 2024 reserve, an initiative that has the approval of the Director of Cooperatives, FCT. The disbursement of the palliatives followed a flat rate across all members as at December, 2024.

Members attested to the fact that the palliative came at the right time to cushion the effect of the present economic hardship experienced by all.

Some Cooperative members applauded the new leadership expressing confidence in their ability to serve them better.

The newly elected Executives are Halima Ahmed (President), Abdulsalam Datti Y. (Vice President), Ivy Acka (Sec. General), Emilia Ogu (Assistant Secretary General), Uche Simon (Financial Secretary) and Chimaroke O. Osondu (Treasurer).
