Fetes Commission’s new office in Kebbi State.
Emir of Gwandu, His Highness Major General Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar (rtd) has lauded the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for commissioning its new State office in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, saying that the initiative will ease the filing of human rights complaints and their resolution in good time.
The newly constructed NHRC State Office was commissioned on the 24th of February, 2025 by the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation (HAGF) and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).
The Royal Father stated this when the Chairperson Governing Council of the NHRC, Dr. Salamatu Hussaini Suleiman (FICMC), and the Executive Secretary, Dr. Tony Ojukwu led other Members of the Council, Directors and other staff of the Commission in the courtesy visit to the Emir Palace.
The Traditional Ruler expressed optimism that there will be increased human rights awareness following the establishment of the NHRC State office in Kebbi State even as he urged the citizens of the State to take advantage of the new office to report all human rights cases in the State.
Earlier, the Chairperson had told the Emir that the Commission is fully committed to the promotion, protection and enforcement of human rights in Kebbi State and in Nigeria in general. She therefore solicited for the cooperation of the Emir in popularising the presence of the Commission in the various communities under his emirate through his Councillors.
The Chairperson who was a former Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs at different times, used the occasion to urge the citizens of Kebbi State and other persons living in the area to always report cases of human rights violations to the new office and not to resort to taking the laws into their hands.
Similarly, the Executive Secretary of the NHRC, Dr Tony Ojukwu OFR, SAN thanked the Emir for creating time to receive the NHRC team in his Palace, pledging the commitment of the staff of the Commission in dealing with cases of human rights violations in the State.
