NHRC PRESENTS SEPTEMBER 2026 HUMAN RIGHTS SITUATION DASHBOARD, RECORDS 338,810 COMPLAINTS

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has presented its September 2026 Human Rights Situation Dashboard, recording a total of 338,810 complaints across its 38 offices nationwide.

The Dashboard, which draws on complaints received by the Commission and incidents monitored through its Human Rights Observatory, provides an overview of the human rights situation in Nigeria, highlighting emerging trends, persistent challenges and areas requiring urgent intervention.

Analysis of complaints revealed that the North Central geopolitical zone recorded the highest number of complaints (142,417), while freedom from discrimination, law enforcement and human dignity, and economic, social and cultural rights featured prominently among the reported violations.

The Human Rights Observatory further documented 208 killings and 210 kidnappings during the reporting period, alongside concerns relating to mass abductions, sexual and physical violence against children, deaths in custody and attacks on law enforcement personnel.

In its response efforts, the Commission reported 2,458 completed investigations, 113 visits to police stations, correctional centres and other places of detention, as well as continued engagement with law enforcement agencies.

The monthly Dashboard underscores the Commission's commitment to evidence-based human rights monitoring, accountability and the promotion and protection of human rights across Nigeria.
