The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has released its May 2025 Human Rights Assessment Dashboard, reflecting a 5% increase in complaints compared to April. This Month we received a total of 275,256 complaints of human rights violations across Nigeria.
Highlights of the May 2025 Dashboard:
A sharp rise in killings (+160%) and kidnappings (+240%)—notably in Benue, Plateau, and Borno States.
Worrying trends in sexual and gender-based violence: 3,361 cases of domestic violence and 1,152 incidents of sexual violence reported.
Escalating violence against children, including defilement, abduction, and child trafficking.
Attacks on law enforcement, vigilantes, and religious leaders. These raise serious concerns about security and rule of law.
