APRIL 2025 HUMAN RIGHTS DASHBOARD

Today, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) presented its April 2025 Human Rights Dashboard, shedding light on critical developments on the state of human rights in Nigeria. The monthly dashboard serves as a vital tool in providing policy directives, as well as a comprehensive analysis of the most pressing human rights issues in the country. It also aims at encouraging informed dialogue that drives meaningful action geared at an all round improvement in the public attitude towards the respect, promotion and protection of Human Rights in Nigeria.

Below is a brief summary of the General outline of the Human Rights Situation for the month of April, 2025.

General Human Rights Situation

Human rights complaints to the NHRC increased marginally in the month of April.  

  • Increased violence and killings in the middle belt.

  • Physical and Sexual Violence on Children.

  • Extra-judicial killings by the Police and the Armed Forces.

  • The resurgence of Boko Haram related attacks in Borno State.

  • Increase in the killings of Military, Law enforcement and security agencies.
