NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION HOLDS A 4-DAY WORKSHOP ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN INDEPENDENT MECHANISM ON MISSING PERSONS IN NIGERIA

The Commission in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) organised a 4-Day workshop for member of the National Technical Committee on Missing Persons (NTC). The workshop held from 21 to 24 February, 2017, at Bolton White Hotel, Abuja and is the second, following an earlier 2-Day workshop held in November 2016.

Over a hundred people who described to themselves as dismissed soldiers storm the headquarters of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in the early hours of Thursday, February 2, 2017 protesting their dismissal from the Nigerian Army.>br> Though reasons for their disengagement from the Army was not clearly stated, the spokesperson of the group Mr. Mike Uchenna Nwabusi lamented that their families have deserted them because they could no longer fend for them.
